Lisa Arrowood Wins Lawsuit Reinstatement from Appeals Court

11/28/2012

The Massachusetts Appeals Court reinstates a lawsuit brought by a client of Lisa Arrowood (acting as local counsel) against Cincinnati Reds star pitcher Aroldis Chapman for breach of a contract Chapman entered into shortly after he defected from Cuba. The Appeals Court ruled that the trial court had erroneously granted judgment on the pleadings for Chapman and rejected Chapman’s contention that the lawsuit brought by plaintiff Carlos Albert Thompson was necessarily barred by the Cuban Assets Control Regulations. “We hold that the complaint was sufficiently plausible to suggest an entitlement to relief,” the Appeals Court wrote.
