Arrowood LLP partner Bill McGonigle was recently sworn in as a member of the Select Board in Winchester, MA after winning one of the two seats on the ballot in the town’s March 26th election.

Mr. McGonigle will serve a three-year term on the five-member board, which acts as the executive branch of the town’s government responsible for a number of areas including town meetings, budgets, public policy, and local regulations.

“I’m very pleased to have won this election, and thankful for the enthusiastic support of my community,” said Mr. McGonigle. “I’m eager and ready to work for the people of this town and make Winchester even more amazing than it already is.”

In his new position, Mr. McGonigle will begin working with other Select Board members on proposed multi-family zoning to comply with Massachusetts’ MBTA 3A program, as well as the adoption of the Communities Preservation Act, which is dedicated to open space protection, historic preservation, affordable housing and outdoor recreation.

During his time in office, Mr. McGonigle will also work toward accomplishing his goals of establishing more long-term budget planning, strengthening the town’s capital position, and guaranteeing that the town’s schools continue to receive support for their physical plants as well as the necessary teacher training to update their literacy curriculum.

“Local government has the most immediate and direct impact on our lives. It’s how our schools get funded and our roads repaired,” said Mr. McGonigle. “The Select Board helps to guide those efforts and sets the tenor for the town. Winchester is my home. It’s important for me to do my civic duty and be an active participant as we plan for the future of our town and the future of our children.”

Mr. McGonigle, who has always had a keen interest in local government, also currently serves as a Town Meeting Member for the town of Winchester, a position he has held since 2022.
