Lisa Arrowood Obtains $8.4M Settlement in Fire Case

01/08/2007

Lisa Arrowood obtained an $8.4 Million settlement in a lawsuit arising out of the deaths of several tenants who were trapped in a burning office building in Newton, Massachusetts.  The plaintiffs alleged that the landlord was liable for numerous code violations and for wasting valuable time attempting to put out the fire before calling the fire department. In addition, the plaintiffs alleged that the alarm company that was hired to install horns and strobes was liable for abandoning the job prior to completion (two weeks before the deadly fire occurred) due to a payment dispute. The building occupants died because they had no warning of the fire until the smoke had invaded the common hallways and stairwells through which they were attempting to escape. They all died as a result of smoke inhalation.
