Lisa G. Arrowood, founding partner at Arrowood LLP, participated in this year’s prestigious National Trial Competition (NTC) as a scoring judge for Round 1 on Thursday, February 11.

Administered by the Texas Young Lawyers Association and co-sponsored by the American College of Trial Lawyers, the National Trail Competition is one of the country’s oldest and most respected law school mock trial competitions. Designed to strengthen law students’ trial advocacy skills through quality competition among peers, the event draws more than 1,000 students from more than 140 law schools around the country.

In her role as a scoring judge, Ms. Arrowood participated in one of the competition’s preliminary regional tournaments, observing and evaluating students’ performance skills during the mock trial and assigning points for the opening statement, direct examination, cross examination and closing argument phases.

This year’s Round 1 trials were held virtually using Zoom, with judges submitting their scores by electronic ballot to a virtual scoring system. Following National Trial Competition rules, student teams maintained anonymity, so scoring judges didn’t know what schools the student teams were from. Top-scoring student teams will compete in March in NTC’s national championship rounds.
