Lisa G. Arrowood Represents Former Boston Medical Center Radiologist in Whistleblower and Gender Discrimination Case

Arrowood LLP partner, Lisa G. Arrowood, has filed suit against Boston Medical Center in a Medical Provider Whistleblower Act case involving alleged gender discrimination.

The plaintiff, Dr. Susan Kiernan O’Horo, a radiologist, claims that during her tenure at Boston Medical Center (BMC), she was treated differently from her male colleagues, ignored when she repeatedly brought up safety concerns related to another radiologist, subsequently relieved of her duties, and ultimately terminated.

Quoted in a recent article about the case in Boston Business Journal, Ms. Arrowood said, “The commonwealth has a strong public-policy against hospitals penalizing doctors who raise concerns about patient safety, and those concerns should be considered carefully regardless of whether they are raised by men or women. Here, Dr. O’Horo believes that, at least in part, why BMC ignored her concerns is because she was a woman. And the only woman in her department.”

The complaint filed in U.S. District Court lists a number of alleged incidents involving patient safety errors made by a fellow Boston Medical Center physician which were witnessed by Dr. O’Horo and brought to the attention of her BMC supervisors and chief medical officer. According to Dr. O’Horo, her supervisors dismissed her concerns, neglected to report the incidents to the Massachusetts State Department of Health, and terminated her employment.
